Boehner Challenges Obama to Approve Full Keystone Pipeline

The Hill: House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) criticized President Obama Monday for backing TransCanada Corp.’s bid to build a major portion of the Keystone XL oil pipeline.
The White House expressed its support earlier Monday for the company’s plan to build a segment of the pipeline from Cushing, Okla., to refineries in Texas. But Boehner said that’s not enough.
He called on the president to approve a permit that would allow the pipeline to cross from Alberta, Canada, into the United States.

The Hill: Democrats this week opened an aggressive front to counter the Republican push to green-light the Keystone XL pipeline, alleging the project will do little to improve U.S. energy security.
The move is meant to undercut Republicans’ rationale for speedy approval of the Alberta-to-Texas pipeline – that the project will make the United States less reliant on oil from unstable nations.

Study: No evidence that climate change caused more severe floods in US

The Hill: A new study conducted by federal scientists found no evidence that climate change has caused more severe flooding in the United States during the last century.
But scientists at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), who published their findings in the Hydrologic Sciences Journal Monday, said they will continue to examine the issue, noting that more research is necessary to better understand the relationship between climate change and flooding.
