Pylons could go ahead in national parks fear CPRE

Telegraph: Nearly 300 miles of power lines will be needed over the next decade to connect new power stations to people's homes. This could mean at least 1,000 pylons through areas of great natural beauty. At the moment the National Grid, is consulting on whether it is possible to bury some of the cables underground. But the Campaign for the Protection for Rural England (CPRE) and the Campaign for National Parks fear the body in charge of the country's electricity network is not taking underground cables...

Dirty Dozen invasive species named

Telegraph: British Waterways identified 12 speciesknown as the 'Dirty Dozen' that are suffocating plants and fishes in rivers and ponds across the country. Most of the plants were introduced to the country from the far East as ornaments for people's gardens including floating pennywort, water fern, Japanese knotweed, giant hogweed, Australian swamp stonecrop and Himalayan balsam. Climate change could happen much faster than previously thought

Telegraph: The US study predicted that if society continues burning fossil fuels at the current rate, atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide could rise from the current level of 390 parts per million (ppm) to 1,000 by the end of this century. The last time the world had such high levels of carbon dioxide temperatures were on average 29F(16C) above pre-industrial levels.
