Exposed: fracking licenses granted in Bushmen’s reserve

Survival International: Large parts of Botswana`s Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) – home to Africa`s last hunting Bushmen – have been opened up to international companies for the controversial practice of 'fracking`, according to an investigation for the documentary film 'The High Cost of Cheap Gas` and British newspaper The Guardian.
A leaked map shows that exploration concessions have been granted for half of the CKGR – a reserve larger than Switzerland – raising fears of land grabbing, a drop in water levels...
Brazilian Indians’ water ‘poisoned’ in bitter land dispute

Survival International: A community of Brazilian Indians say their main source of water has been poisoned by one of the state’s most controversial ranches.
The Guarani from Ypo’i community in Mato Grosso do Sul state used a mobile phone to film the contamination, which spread quickly to cover much of the stream for two days.
The Indians said, ‘the children were bathing when they saw the white foam…we followed the stream up to the ranch, where we saw two large containers.’

Survival International: Violent land grabs in Ethiopia’s Lower Omo Valley are displacing tribes and preventing them from cultivating their land, leaving thousands of people hungry and ‘waiting to die’.

Death threat from Shell supplier on Brazilian tribe’s land

Survival International: Energy giant Shell's joint venture partner, Cosan, is buying sugarcane grown on Guarani land. A Brazilian rancher supplying sugarcane to a joint venture partner of energy giant Shell has reportedly issued a death threat against a political opponent.
