US Environmentalists Urge Obama to Stop Exporting Natural Gas

Sputnik: The United States should stop natural gas export because it contributes to global warming, affects local communities and drives US energy prices up, the Center for Biological Diversity senior counsel Bill Snape said in a statement on Wednesday upon issuing a petition urging the ban.

Sputnik: The South Coast Air Quality Management District said residents in southern California are now at the highest risk of developing cancer in the state. Following the state officials' report, these regulators approved new rules affecting their region which accounts for about 11,000 square miles inhabited by almost 12 million people including those in Los Angelas.
Factories, oil refineries, and other stationary sources of air pollution in southern California may soon have to adhere to tighter restrictions....

Sputnik: The US Environmental Protection Agency says that, while hydraulic fracturing has the potential to contaminate drinking water, and has done so on some occasions, there is no evidence of "widespread" pollution across the country, according to a draft report released by Thursday.
The report, commissioned by Congress, claims to be the most comprehensive evaluation to date of the effect on drinking water of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking. The process involves pumping chemical-laden water deep underground...

Sputnik: Fracking is the process of extracting gas and oil from shale rock by drilling into the earth.
