Arkansas Exxon Spill Much Bigger Than Initially Thought

Salon: As noted here, ExxonMobil in conjunction with Arkansas authorities have taken pains to shroud in relative secrecy the disaster in Mayflower, Ark., after a pipeline rupture leaked thousands of barrels of tar sands oil. Obama’s climate change vow will be quickly tested

Salon: President Obama in his Inaugural address Monday vowed to "respond to the threat of climate change." After climate change remained a largely untouched subject during his presidential campaign, environmentalists were pleased by the prominence environmental issues held in Obama`s speech. World Bank report warns of “devastating” climate change effects

Salon: A new report issued by the World Bank warned that, based on current climate models, the world can expect extreme heat waves, declining global food stocks, loss of ecosystems and biodiversity, and life-threatening sea level rise.
The report says today’s climate could "warm from the current global mean temperature of 0.8°C above pre-industrial levels, to as high as 4°C by 2100, even if countries fulfill current emissions-reduction pledges."

Salon: This year alone, the anti-environment side has prevailed more than 100 votes in the House of Representatives.
