Astronomers to convene in Hawaii this summer amid TMT controversy

Pacific Business News: As officials await a start date of the $1.4 billion Thirty Meter Telescope project on the Big island, thousands of astronomers from around the world are making plans to gather in Hawaii in what will be the largest International Astronomical Union triennial general assembly in history. Pacific Business News: The Office of Hawaiian Affairs board of trustees voted Thursday to withdraw its resolution supporting the Thirty Meter Telescope project on the Big Island's Mauna Kea. The trustees, including Colette Machado, Peter Apo, Carmen Hulu Lindsey, Lei Ahu Isa, Haunani Apoliona, Rowena Akana. Univ of Hawaii regents hear more Thirty Meter Telescope testimony in Hilo

Pacific Business News: The University of Hawaii Board of Regents has scheduled a second special meeting in Hilo this weekend to hear concerns and support from the community on the planned Thirty Meter Telescope project, as opposition to the internationally-backed $1.4 billion planned observatory for Mauna Kea holds construction at a standstill.
