Supreme Court suspends TMT construction on Mauna Kea after emergency motion

KHON: The Hawaii Supreme Court has granted an emergency motion to halt construction on the Thirty Meter Telescope atop Mauna Kea. According to Tuesday’s ruling, “The Conservation District Use Permit HA-3568 is temporarily stayed until Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, or until further order of the Court.” TMT has until Nov. 24 to respond. KHON: Tense moments on Maui Thursday night as protesters faced off against police as crews tried to resume construction of a controversial telescope on Haleakala.
Maui police report that, at 10 p.m., officers were summoned to the Central Maui Baseyard to assist with crowd control. A representative of the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy initiated a complaint that numerous individuals were blocking the exit.

KHON: Seven protesters were taken into custody for violating state law overnight atop Mauna Kea. The Department of Land and Natural Resources said they were violating the new rules that have been put in place making it illegal to camp overnight atop the mountain. Back on July 14, Governor David Ige signed the newly proposed rules into law. KHON: The state Board of Land and Natural Resources passed an emergency rule to stop people from camping atop Mauna Kea. The vote was 5 -- 2.
To promote what it called “safe access to the Mauna Kea summit,” the state proposed “nighttime hours during which individuals may not remain within a designated restricted area and also prohibits the presence of camping-related supplies within the restricted areas at all hours.”

Aloha Aina Music Festival rocks Waikiki in support of protecting Mauna Kea

KHON: Some of the biggest names in Hawaiian music showed their support for protecting Mauna Kea at a concert at the Waikiki Shell Saturday evening.
The "Aloha Aina Music Festival" featured performances by Shawn Pimental, Mana`o Company, Henry Kapono, Amy Hanaiali`i, Hapa, Fiji, Paula Fuga, among others.
It was organized by supporters of the effort to protect Mauna Kea. They say proceeds will help save Mauna Kea and other sacred lands.

Thirty Meter Telescope construction vehicles leave amid Mauna Kea protests

KHON: Some construction vehicles are turning around and leaving as hundreds of protesters block their path on Mauna Kea Wednesday.
Construction on the Thirty Meter Telescope was scheduled to resume but so far, no vehicles have been able to reach the site.
The development comes as more officers with the Hawaii Police Department and state Department of Land and Natural Resources continue to make arrests.

KHON: Dozens of people are sleeping on Mauna Kea Tuesday night. Many are calling themselves the protectors of the mountain, and dozens more are expected by Wednesday morning.
That`s when TMT partners says it will resume construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope.
