United Kingdom: Anti-fracking activists drill home message with parliament protests

Guardian: Anti-fracking activists plan to erect a mock drilling rig outside the Houses of Parliament as part of a series of protests on Saturday against the controversial technique to extract shale gas.
The protests come as Greenpeace warned that the government had earmarked nearly two-thirds of England for potential shale gas drilling sites.
Campaign group Frack Free will deliver a letter to 10 Downing Street calling for a ban on exploration and development of shale gas and coal bed methane.

UK flood alerts remain as heavy rain spreads

Guardian: Large swaths of England and Wales remain on alert as heavy rain that brought flash flooding to parts of Wales and Shropshire is expected to extend southwards on Saturday.
The Environment Agency has 12 flood warnings in place in England and Wales – six in the south-west, four in the Midlands and two in the Anglian area – as well as 58 flood alerts.

Guardian: Radioactive water from Japan's quake-striken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant is leaking into the sea, its operator said.
The 20cm (8in) crack in a containment pit under reactor two may be the source of recent radiation in coastal waters, Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco) officials said.
Hidehiko Nishiyama, deputy director-general of the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency, said Tepco was planning to pour concrete into the pit to seal the crack, which may have been leaking since the magnitude 9.0...
