Comment: The situation is particularly critical in China where 45% of coal-fired power plants are in areas of water over-withdrawal, followed by India and Turkey at 13%. Coal power plants use enough water to supply the needs of 1 billion people and that will nearly double if all the world's planned power plants come online. This would cause severe drought and worsen the ongoing conflict between agriculture and industry over water in regions such as Vidarbha and Marathwada in Maharashtra and Northern Karnataka.......
