Church of England in ‘fracking land-grab’

Telegraph: Residents across England have started receiving letters from the Land Registry, informing them that the Church is seeking to register the mineral rights to the earth beneath their property.
Lawyers believe that the Church's claim could allow it to profit from fracking, the controversial method of extracting oil and cash by fracturing underground rocks with water and chemicals.

Telegraph: The warning has been issued to Anglicans in Lancashire, where significant work to extract gas and oil by fracking has been proposed.
The Diocese of Blackburn has published a leaflet for its flock, telling them that for Christians, fracking presents "a choice between economic gain and a healthy environment.'

Chris Huhne: Climate change threatens UK security

Telegraph: The Energy Secretary predicted that UK will be "exposed to the shocking and alarming' consequences of a warmer world. Unchecked, climate change poses "a systemic threat' to the international order, he said.
Mr Huhne made the prediction in a speech to the Royal United Services Institute, a military think-tank.
The speech is meant to pave the way for a White Paper next week that will set out plans to boost the use of nuclear power and "renewable' energy sources like wind farms.
