Iceland is melting so fast, it’s literally popping off the planet
Posted by Quartz: Gwynn Guilford on February 1st, 2015
Quartz: Iceland is rising. Or, more precisely, the island’s “ice” part is shrinking, causing the “land” part to rebound from the Earth’s crust--a process that’s happening at a pace much faster than scientists had previously realised. In fact, its glaciers are melting so swiftly that parts of Iceland are rising as much as 1.4 inches (35mm) a year.
That’s according to research just published (paywall) by a team led by scientists from the University of Arizona. The study is the first to directly link the...
Climate change will leave wine-drinkers drunker and poorer

Quartz: On Jul. 17, Australia scrapped its carbon tax--hardly a surprising move given that the country`s prime minister, Tony Abbott, once called evidence of climate change "absolute crap."
Australia`s winemakers, however, don`t seem to agree with Abbott. Several leading wineries are investing in Tasmania, a cooler island state 240 kilometers (150 miles) south of continental Australia. Wine production there is now growing nearly 10% a year, reports the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, while production...
An illustrated guide to our collapsing Antarctic glaciers
Posted by Quartz: Gwynn Guilford on May 16th, 2014
Quartz: Structurally critical glaciers from the West Antarctic ice sheet are disappearing way faster than we realized, two teams of scientists recently reported.
Their papers--one from NASA and the University of California, Irvine, the other from the University of Washington--both say there`s nothing we can do to stop it.
Here`s how the glaciers in question will collapse.
Topography
The West Antarctic ice sheet is located about 1,000 km (600 miles) southeast of Argentina`s southern tip. The bulk...
