Big Island Now: A lawsuit has been filed in Federal District Court alleging that the Office of Mauna Kea Management and other state agencies are restricting cultural and religious practices on the mountain. Attorney Lanny Sinkin says that he is representing Frank Kamealoha Anuumealani Nobriga, the Kahuna of the Temple of Lono. Big Island Now: Governor David Ige’s Chief of Staff Mike McCartney released a statement Wednesday evening the day`s protests on Mauna Kea of the Thirty Meter Telescope project.
In the statement, McCartney noted that a total of eleven individuals were arrested. These individuals are in addition to one person arrested by the Hawai’i Police Department. HPD`s arrest was made on the Hawai’i County portion of the Mauna Kea Access Road.

Big Island Now: Construction on the Thirty Meter Telescope project will resume Wednesday with continued resistance from those who hold Mauna Kea sacred. According to an Associated Press report, approximately 20 people are already camped out near the TMT construction site. Some told the media outlet that they are “bracing to be arrested” when work on the project starts up again. Big Island Now: A joint statement from University of Hawai’i President David Lassner and UH-Hilo Chancellor Donald Straney was released Monday addressing Governor David Ige’s May 26 announcement of a plan to enhance the stewardship of Mauna Kea.
